The first thing to do is find out the details of available utility providers for your new home. If your current provider offers service in your new area then you're in luck. You could manage a transfer of connection with just a few formalities. Otherwise, list down the options you have, compare them and choose what is best for your needs. If you are good at negotiating, you can even bag a few discounts and incentives that companies usually offer to their new customers. 

Different companies have different prices and time frames for completion of formalities and setting up of the connection. This is especially true in case you are moving out of state or country and are hiring a new company.
